Doris Ann Roath, 85 of Canon City, Colorado passed away peacefully in her home with her husband by her side on Thursday, April 4, 2019. Ann was born in Memphis, Tennessee on February 18, 1934 to Robert and Lois Lee.
Ann was a long time resident of San Antonio, Texas and attended Jefferson High School where she met John E. Gwyn, Sr. They were married 37 years and had three children.
Ann’s first job was for Southwestern Bell in San Antonio. She later became a bookkeeper for a cosmetology school in Abilene, Texas, office manager for two San Antonio businesses and later a realtor.
She loved to quilt, read and was a talented writer. She researched and wrote articles about the heritage of various Texas cities, including Fredericksburg and Buffalo Gap, among others.
Ann moved to Canon City where she met Jack Roath. They were married April 9, 2010. Ann was loved by all who knew her. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother “Grammie” who had a child-like spirit for life and was always anxious to share it with her family and friends.
She had an infinite love of music which she also loved to share with all who would listen.
At the age of 70 she began taking drum lessons and continued to enjoy playing, participating regularly at local event with husband, Jack, singing and entertaining with local band “The Ladybugs” at nursing homes as recently as Valentine’s Day of this year.
Ann is survived by her husband, Jack Roath of Canon City, CO.; son, John (Priscilla) Gwyn Jr.; daughters, Donna(Don) Kanapkey and Carol Pulliam; step-son, , Lane Roath; granddaughters, Alison (Ben) Fair, Hannah (Kory) Kanapkey; grandsons, John Michael Gwyn, Gabriel Gwyn, Joshua Kanapkey, Zachary (Alica) Kanapkey, Jason (Carrie) Kanapkey, Chance Kanapkey, Taylor (Melissa) Pulliam along with numerous great-grandchildren.
Ann was preceded in death by her late husband John Gwyn Sr.; and son-in-law, Allen (Carol) Pullman.
Memorial service, 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019, First United Methodist Church of Canon City. Graveside service to be held Wednesday April 10, 2019 for family only.
