Mary Ann Vuolo

Mary Ann Vuolo passed peacefully and graciously away from this life on October 29, 2019 at her daughter’s home in Penrose, Colorado.

Mary Ann married Robert Vuolo on October 16, 1965. They had an amazing 54 year marriage.  Mary Ann and Robert traveled extensively before starting a family and lived in Brooklyn, NY until 1971 when she and Robert moved to Lakewood, Colorado for Robert’s career with the Maniville Corporation.

They lived in their home for 47 years. Mary Ann was an accountant/bookkeeper, homemaker and later in life was a Certified Nurse Assistant for 25 years at Bear Creek Nursing Center in Morrison, Colorado on the Alzheimer’s unit until she retired in 2015.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her twin sister Barbara Kalaka; and parents,Tessie and Leonard Kalaka.

Mary Ann loved gourmet cooking and it brought her great happiness, she (as well as many others) considered herself a cook beyond her times with her unique style of cooking. Mary Ann was in her younger years all about the latest vogue fashion, dinner parties and going out on the town.

Mary Ann was a water-skier, went RV camping every weekend through the summers and snow skiing every weekend in the winters.

Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren who each brought very special meaning to her life.

Mary Ann helped raise her grandchildren Peter and Halie in their younger years to help her daughter, Kristine while she worked. Halie, her granddaughter always held a special place in Mary Ann’s heart. Peter and Halie later in life both moved in at separate times with their grandparents to help with day to day life and forged a strong bond with Mary Ann, which Mary Ann treasured immensely. Mary Ann moved to Penrose in February 2019 to be with her husband (who had moved there 3 years prior for health issues) and eldest daughter.

She absolutely adored and loved watching Jake (the artist), Max (the old soul) Peter (the soul wander), Halie (the guardian angel) and Grant (the dreamer) as they grew up but also held a special place in her heart for her newest grandchild Ariana (the blessing) who gave her strength to fight her illness every day.

MaryAnn would give all she had for her children and grandchildren, she always placed others needs in front of her own, Mary Ann was kind soul and giving beyond words.

Mary Ann was a warrior through her COPD which she was diagnosed in 2016 and fought hard until the end.

She was gracious and refined every step of the way.

Mary Ann taught all her children and grandchildren that family always takes care of family no matter what ... a saying that today still holds true and always will.

A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. Mary Ann has always been and always will be her family’s hero.
