Shirley Ann Gentry, 84, of Canon City, Colorado passed away August 25, 2019. Shirley was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Shirley was born August 11, 1935, the oldest of 11 brothers and sisters, in Indianapolis Indiana. She married William “Bill” Gentry in 1953. Most people knew her husband as Bill but she always called him Eddie. In 1967, they moved their family of five children and a dog to Colorado.
She made her living grooming dogs for many years. They also owned a laundry mat that she would go and help clean every night after working all day grooming. She has always been a very hard worker and because of this she and Bill were able to retire in 1980. She and Bill moved to the mountains and never looked back. Even after retiring they still worked hard. They even reopened a kennel and started the dog grooming side of it before selling it and retiring again. They moved several times after retiring. They would improve the home and resell it. They were very entrepreneurial.
She enjoyed fishing, dirt bike riding, quilting, raising chickens and playing games like Texas Holdem and Dominos with her friends.
She lost the love of her life in 2014. She was never quite the same after that.
She is survived by her sons, William (Barb) and Eddie (Yolanda) Gentry; daughters, Linda (John) Bibb, and Cynthia (Stuart) Adams; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
