Allie Fay (Snow) Marsh

Allie Fay Marsh, 91, of Canon City, passed away February 16, 2021, peacefully at home with her family.  She was born May 24, 1929, in Dyke, Colorado, to Otto and Mable Snow.  Mrs. Marsh grew up in Archuleta and Rio Grande Counties in Colorado and lived in many different places including Pagosa Springs, Monte Vista, and rural farmland in unincorporated areas of the county.  She graduated in 1946 from Rio Grande County High School and began working in the office of JCPenney.  She also worked for the Hested’s chain of stores in various cities including Wheatland, Wyoming; Montrose, Colorado; and Florence, Colorado.  Fay married Edward Keith Marsh on January 4, 1948, in Monte Vista, Colorado, in the living room of her parents’ house.  They were married for 67 years until his death in 2015. After her marriage, Fay loved being a housewife and all the skills that entailed.  She loved things like knitting and sewing and was extremely talented at making outfits for the whole family.  She especially enjoyed gardening every summer in their massive garden and the canning that came after the harvest resulting in a huge walk-in pantry of home canned goods in the basement of their house in Florence.  She was especially famous for her green beans, dill pickles and candied apples picked from their own crabapple tree.  She also spent many years as a caregiver for numerous elderly or infirm friends and family including her father-in-law, her daughter, and many others who they took into their home. 

However, her greatest loves in her life were her family and sharing the good news about Jehovah God with others.  She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on May 30, 1948, in San Francisco, California.  She was a member of the Montrose, Canon City, and South congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses throughout her lifetime.  She served as a regular pioneer putting in 90 hours per month in the ministry from 1952-1956 and again from 1987 until her death serving on the infirm list for the last few years of her life.  Even when she became mostly homebound she would talk about the Bible to anyone who came to her home including the garbage man, the Meals on Wheels volunteers, home health care nurses, and other residents of her court. 

Mrs. Marsh is survived by her daughter, Lynda (Dennis) Lock of Canon City, Colorado; grandchildren, Mysia (Rick) Wolfe and Serena (Rick) Love of Canon City, Colorado; and Justin (Tawnya) Alarid of Olney Springs, Colorado; great grandchildren, Lexis and Kai Alarid of Olney Springs, Colorado and George and Isabella Alarid by Justin's second wife, Sarah; three nephews, Gary, Len, and Neil Marsh, and other extended family, as well as countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Goldie and Cora; husband, Keith; son-in-law, Dennis; and her granddaughter, Tawnya Alarid. A Zoom memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021, with Rocky Hyatt officiating.
