Barbara Rose Rupp

Barbara R. Rupp, 90, passed away on January 15, 2022, at the ranch, her home of nearly 73 years. She was born on May 26, 1931, to her mother, Bessie Covell.

She attended many of her early school years in one-room schoolhouses in the Tallahassee and 12 Mile areas and received her Colorado Public Schools diploma from Fremont County School District 41 in 1947. Barbara married George V. Rupp on March 9, 1949, and they immediately started their life’s journey on the ranch. They spent 61 years together before George passed on March 17, 2010. She was a wonderful homemaker and was always willing to be a helping hand on the farm and ranch. Barbara liked to cook, garden and can, grow flowers, and occasionally go to Cripple Creek. She enjoyed seeing the wildlife who visited regularly, but she especially loved her very special dog and companion, Coco. Barbara has been described as a diamond in the rough and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Curtis) Stone; grandchildren, Greg (Shannon) Stone and Laurie (Pat) Long; great-grandchildren, Brenna (Zach) Stone-Clain, Danielle Stone, Bailey Stone, Savana Stone, Marissa Stone, Gannon (Alyssa) Long, and Makenna Long; a half-brother, Donald Ferkel; as well as numerous sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, cousins, and many friends.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband; mother, Bessie; and brother, Richard Covell.

The family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Sangre de Cristo Hospice.

Services will be held at Holt Family Funeral Home at 806 Macon Avenue, Canon City, CO 81212 on January 29, 2022, beginning with a visitation at 9:00 a.m. and service at 10:00 a.m. A graveside will follow at Mountain Vale Memorial Garden.
