Bonita Jewett Obituary

Bonita Deneice (Edie) Jewett, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother went to join Russell, living with Heavenly Father, Sunday July 18, 2021. She was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Della Roziliah Colson Edie and Henry Randall Edie January 31, 1930.

Bonita was born and raised in Idaho living in several different towns, on ranches where her father worked. At the age of 14 she moved with her family to Pocatello, Idaho where two short years later she first met her future husband, Russ, who had recently returned from service in the US Air Force. They were married on April 6, 1947, in Las Vegas, Nevada and later sealed in Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 12, 1969.

She lived in Idaho until Russ finished Pharmacy school. In 1949, they moved to Wyoming, where she worked as a telephone operator while Russ worked as a pharmacist intern. In 1950, she moved to Pueblo, Colorado where they purchased their own drug store. Ten years later, Bonita and Russ moved to Canon City, Colorado and opened Jewett Drug. She and the family operated “Jewett’s” for many years. The new store, owned by her daughter, Julie and son-in-law, Rick, still bears the family name.

She enjoyed many of the same hobbies and activities as Russ, including prospecting and fishing, but her lifelong interest, since age 20, was family history (genealogy). She traced her ancestry to England, Ireland and Scotland and found direct ancestry to the Mayflower pilgrims.

She was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Idaho at the age of 19. She continued with her passion of genealogy work as an active member of the church throughout her life.

Bonita genuinely loved her family and enjoyed babysitting her four grandchildren. She was blessed with visits and happy memories of her great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Julie (Rick) Wright, of Canon City, Colorado, Linda (Kent) Johnson, of Dallas, Texas, Suzette Jewett of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) Humeny, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Nicole (Chet) Jones, of Canon City, Colorado, Alicia (Corey) Mackey, of Sonoma, California, Blaine (Elissa) Johnson, of Dallas, Texas; great grandchildren, Brianna Merrit, Brooklyn Merritt, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Taylor Jones, Avery Jones, Ryan Jones, of Canon City, Colorado, Cameron Mackey, of Sonoma, California, other family members living in Idaho and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She is preceded in death by Russell Jewett, her loving husband of 69 years as well as her mother Roziliah Eddie, father Randall Eddie, brothers Dean and Alden Eddie, great granddaughter Finley Jones and other great grandchildren who joined Heavenly Father prior to birth.

She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Services will be held at the LDS Church, 1435 Elm Ave. Canon City, Colorado on Monday, July 26, 2021. Viewing will begin at 9:00am and services will follow at 10:00am. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery Canon City, Colorado.
