Doris Cunningham

Doris Irene Duensing Cunningham was born in Thayer County, Nebraska, on February 25, 1935. She was baptized on March 10, 1935, and confirmed in her faith on April 10, 1949. Doris grew up in Eden, Idaho, a place she always held close to her heart.

In the early 1960s, Doris moved to Denver, Colorado, where she met and married Richard Cunningham on October 1, 1961, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Together they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family. After the birth of their son Brian in 1965, Doris began providing daycare, a calling she continued for many years.

At age 65, Doris and Richard retired to Canon City, Colorado, where they proudly built their first brand‑new home. In 2023, Doris returned to the Denver area to be closer to family as her health needs grew.

Doris enjoyed bowling, pinochle, cribbage, and later in life, jokers and marbles—games that brought joy and connection to her days.

She is survived by her children, Michelle (Scott) Kieffer and Brian (Laurie) Cunningham; her grandchildren Lindsey Moore, Dan, Nick (Brooke), Beau, and Cole (Molly); and her great‑grandchildren Greyson, Lyla, and Beckett. She is also survived by her sister Lilly Hintz as well as her nieces and nephew, who each carry cherished memories of her love and warmth.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Richard Cunningham, her sister and brother‑in‑law Lorna and Richard Wright, and her brother‑in‑law Harlan Hintz.

Doris will be remembered for her kindness, her quiet strength, and the deep love she held for her family.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church: 790 Greydene Ave. Canon City.
