Douglas Robinson Obituary

Douglas Glen Robinson, 78, of Canon City, CO passed away on the morning of Sunday, Aug 14, 2022, after a long struggle with COPD.  He is no longer fighting and breathing easy now. Doug was born in Monte Vista, CO on Aug 27, 1943, to Claude T. Robinson and Margarette Betty (Hamblin) Robinson.  He graduated from Florence High School in 1961 and did go on to obtain some college education at Adams State University.  Claude and Margaret had five children; Doug was their third child: Ronnie (Vonnie) Robinson (April 12, 1940 – March 17, 2021) , Patricia (Robinson) Hertlein, William (Alice) Robinson (August 6, 1944 – February 25, 2016), Larry (Jacquie) Robinson (December 21, 1947 – August 22, 1996) and Leonard (Donna) Robinson. His first marriage was in 1965 and he was blessed with two sons, Dean Y. (Holly) Robinson and Dale J. (Marylynn) Robinson (February 16, 1972 – June 18, 2020), this marriage ended in 1982.  Doug was married to the love of his life, Katherine L. (Chiaro) Robinson on Aug 5, 1983.  Their union brought two stepdaughters, Olivia Uhland and Lorinda (Uhland) Martinez, into Doug’s life as well as having their youngest daughter, Opal (Robinson) Griffin. Plumbing work was ingrained in the Robinson DNA. Doug worked with his father for many years learning the trade and continued serving his community in this line of work for most of his life.  He also worked in the Southern Colorado area as a Linemen for a short time after school.  He opened his own plumbing business, Robinson Plumbing, in 1967. At the time, he was the youngest person ever to get his master’s plumbing licenses at 22 years of age.  He ran the business for about fifteen years, some of those with his brother Bill as well.  Doug started working at the Department of Corrections in June of 1979 and continued to work in the maintenance department until his partial retirement in 2003.  He did continue to work part-time at ACE Hardware and Johnny’s Plumbing until he fully retired at the age of 69. Douglas is survived by his wife, Katherine L. Robinson; his son, Dean (Holly) Robinson; their children, Mitch (Hannah) Martin, Amber Robinson, Erika (Tyler) Palmer, Parker (Quintin) Robinson; grandchildren, Charlotte, Shyann, Alice, Ruby and Henry; daughter-in-law, Marylynn (Dale) Robinson; daughters, Danyell Hebberd, Callie Hebberd; sons, Tyler and Lucas; step-daughters, Olivia Uhland, Lorinda (Shane) Martinez; and step-granddaughters, Amelia and Opal (Pat) Griffin.
