This November 4th, Jamal Ownbey passed away. He was preceded in passing by his father, Victor Carlisle; brother, Mathew Ownbey and sister, Jamaica Ownbey.
He is survived by his mother, Rebecca Ownbey; brothers, Tafari Ownbey, Malakai Ownbey; sister, Samiyah Ownbey; nieces, Shaylee, Kyri, Lizzy and nephews, Mica and Kale.
Jamal loved to do anything that involved being outdoors, from fishing and gold prospecting, to finding gemstones on mountain tops and hunting for Native American artifacts. No matter where Jamal was, he could always give insight into rock formations. Sometimes he would invite or be invited for a “hike”, just to get out, breathe in the fresh air, and take in all the colors and once-in-a-lifetime views. It didn’t matter whether it was seven minutes out of town or a 17-hour hike into the mountains, Jamal found peace in the outdoors. He will be missed by so many, like a brother.
Visitation, 11:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 12:00 noon, Friday, November 13, 2020, Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3180 E. Main St., in Canon City. Interment to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeside Cemetery.
