James “Jim” Ross Teeter was called into his heavenly home on November 13, 2020. He was insistent that the world would know that “he didn’t die of COVID and he didn’t vote for ‘that’ guy”.
Jim was born in Liberal, Kansas, on September 26, 1949, to Ross C. and L. Beryl Teeter. He grew up on the family farm in Moscow, Kansas. Jim was always known as quite the tease and tormented his older sister, Shirley Mothes, with the help of his younger sister, Sheri Teeter. He married the love of his life, Judy Kay Mann, on August 9, 1969—the summer of love. They finished their education at Panhandle State and Jim joined the Army where he served from 1972-74. Jim was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict in the Pershing Missile Unit.
Upon returning to Kansas in 1974, Jim and Judy set up their farming operation and in July of 1978, they welcomed their first child, a daughter, Jamie Kay. In August of 1983, Jonathan Ross was born. Jim and Judy raised their children on the family farm until 1999, when they made the move to Canon City, Colorado.
Always wanting to live in the mountains, Jim loved living in the Canon City community. He worked at his most favorite place in the world, the Royal Gorge Bridge, for several years. He then took a job at St. Thomas More Hospital in Security. He was awarded Employee of the Year and a service award from the Federal Bureau of Prisons SORT Team.
Jim is survived by his beautiful wife Judy; his daughter, Jamie Kay Teeter Dodd and her husband, Darren; his son, Jonathan Ross Teeter, his wife, Kelly and their children, Gabriel James, Daniel Jon, and Serena Kelly; his sisters, Shirley Teeter Mothes and her family, Sheri Teeter and her family; his adopted children, Dustin and Casey Maas and their children, Luke and Benjamin, as well as the many people Jim loved and invested in.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ross C. and L. Beryl Jones Teeter as well as many aunts and uncles. Memorial contributions can be sent to Royal Gorge Vineyard Church, 629 Harrison Ave., Canon City, CO 81212 or PHCI-Love from Above, P.O. Box 338, Hugoton, KS 67951.
