Joel H. “Joey” Strickler, 53, of Cañon City, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021. Joel was born January 4, 1968 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania to James Strickler and Grace Gingrich. He proudly served in the United States Army for 13 years, including two tours in Korea and one tour in Kuwait.
After his service, Joel went on to a career of 19 years with the Colorado Department of Corrections. Joel was always a very hard worker who also worked for Holt Family Funeral Home and with the Fremont County Coroner’s office.
Joel married Heather Robinson on August 16, 1996 and they shared 25 wonderful years together. He always had a humorous anecdote and brought a smile to so many with his great sense of humor. He was a food enthusiast, always ready for a home-cooked meal, tasty cakes, a chocolate shake or German food.
Joel loved Military History, all kinds of music and artists, and was a lover of all animals. He was a loving, Christian man who loved others well with his support, time, care and compassion. Joel was a true family man who was extremely proud to be a dad, Opa, husband, son, brother and friend.
Joel is survived by his loving wife, Heather; mother, Grace Strickler; children, Adam, Aimee (Andrew) Baker, Lucas (Elise) Strickler; Zachary Strickler; grandchildren, Nash and Finn Baker; mother and father-in-law, Shirley and Preston Troutman; father-in-law, Ronald Robinson; siblings, Jimmy (Patti), Judy (Terry), Jeannie (Terry), Jane, Janet, Sandy; sisters-in-law, Donna (Jackie) Hardy, Stacy Robinson; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; grandmother, Marian Haldman; kindly regarded uncles, William Strickler (WWII deceased), James Gemill; special nephew, John Foreman and numerous other family members.
Visitation, 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2021, Cañon Community Baptist Church, 1111 Monroe Ave. in Cañon City. In honor of Joel’s military service, please feel open to wear red, white and blue. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Joel Strickler memorial fund, located at Credit Union of Colorado.
