Leonard Grantner, 80 years old, residing in Canon City, CO, formerly from Shamong, NJ, Yorktown Heights, NY, born & raised in Flint, MI, passed away Thursday, April 29th, 2021, at Joni Fair Hospice House, Pueblo, CO. 

Len was passionate about Catholicism. He loved the Church, Mass, and Sacraments. He joined St. Michael Catholic Church, 2006 after moving to Canon City. He was active in many ministries through the years especially Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent de Paul Society. Len was a faithful servant of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was an active member through the years of the parishes he attended.

He was a graduate of Holy Redeemer High School in Flint, MI in 1957, and received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Michigan State University.  He pursued a doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University in New York. Len was passionate about his faith, family,  and  education. 

Len loved to explore the outdoors and often went hiking or camping with his family in his leisure time. During retirement he enjoyed yardwork, reading, puzzles, and had a genuine love for music.

Len had an illustrious career that started at Ocean & Atmospheric Sciences, Dobbs Ferry, NY,  then RCA in Moorestown, NJ, endured through several sales and mergers, never leaving his desk and ultimately retired from Lockheed Martin in 2006.  He was very influential on prestigious defense projects, such as the AEGIS Combat Systems, which are still used today.  He shared his passion for education by instructing Navy Officers at M.I.T. in the summers of the late 80’s. 

Len is survived by the love of his life and wife of almost 53 years, Jeanette Lyles Grantner; son, Michael (Kimberly) Marlton, NJ;  daughter, Anne Marie Grantner, Baytown, TX;  son, Paul of Little Egg  Harbor, NJ;  granddaughters, Kharma and Zanna Smith, Baytown, TX;  Brother Richard and Patti, Santa Ana, CA;  sister Carole and Donald Dodge, Clarkston, MI; step-sister Janice Church, Grand Blanc, MI, brothers-in-law Gerald and Kathy Lyles, Linden, MI; David Lyles, Summerfield, FL, sister-in-law Myrna and Tommy Johnson, Bonham, TX, and numerous neices, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mildred Grantner, and step-mother, Dorothy Grantner.

Visitation 2-4 PM, Wednesday, May 5, 2021 followed by Vigil Service and Rosary 4PM at St. Michael Catholic Church. A Celebration of New Life service will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, May 6, 2021, with visitation 9AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1016 Mystic Ave, Canon City, with Reverend Jesse Perez presiding. Burial at Mountain Vale Memorial Park Cemetery, Canon City, CO.
