Myrtle Manning Obituary

Myrtle Arlene (Conklin) Manning, of Florence, Colorado peacefully went to be with Jesus on February 15, 2021. She was 83 years old.

She was the beloved wife of Joseph E. Manning for 53 years. Myrtle was born in Plattekill, New York on March 14, 1937 to Lewis “Gus” Conklin and Evelyn (Decker) Conklin. She lived in Clintondale, New York, after graduation and worked for IBM before meeting Joe, whom she married on September 22, 1956. During her marriage, Myrtle became a homemaker and mother, raising five children. In 1966, the family moved to Broomfield, Colorado.  After retirement, Joe and Myrtle owned and operated Royal View Camp Resort in the Royal Gorge Region of Colorado for 16 years. After they sold the camp resort, they moved to Fort Pierce, Florida. After the passing of Joe, Myrtle moved to Florence, Colorado with her daughters, Regina (Regi) Manning and Stephanie Adams.

Myrtle is survived by four children, Stephanie Adams, of Florence, Regina (Regi) Manning, of Florence, James (Jim) Manning and his wife, Laurie, of Fort Collins, Colorado, Justine Manning and her partner, Jackie Meyer, of Centennial, Colorado; three grandchildren, Samantha Hood and her husband, Derrick, of Cottonwood, Arizona, Jacob Manning, of Fort Collins, Jessica Manning and her fiancé, Makanaky Castillo, of Aurora, Colorado; two great-grandchildren, Alexa Hood, of Cottonwood, Arizona, Ezra Castillo, of Aurora; and one sister, Evelyn Murray, of Fort Pierce, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Manning; sons, Kevin Manning, Timothy Manning; brother, Robert Conklin and his wife, Judith.

Myrtle will be remembered as a strong, loving family woman who always made time (and food) for those she loved. She was a faithful Christian, and with her faith, along with family and many close friends, was the cornerstone of her life. She was a youth group leader in her church and loved Bible studies.

A service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in the spring, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Joe. A picnic and Celebration of Life will follow for those attending.

In lieu of flowers, Myrtle and the family requested that donations be made to Fremont Regional Hospice, 1439 Main St., Cañon City, CO 81212, in the name of Myrtle Manning.
