Neil D. Harman

Neil Harman was born to Ruth and Jud Harman in Simla, Colorado on May 17, 1942. He moved with his family to Matheson before settling in Colorado Springs, where he grew up and graduated from Wasson High School in 1960. Following high school graduation, he studied at Western State College and completed his degree in 1964.

Neil taught in the Biology and Industrial Arts departments at Harrison School District in Colorado Springs for many years.  He married Cicily Weaver in 1978 and together they built a strong partnership. Soon, daughter Leah joined the family and became the focus of the couple’s love and pride.

Cicily and Neil moved to Florence, Colorado in 1985, where Neil became involved with City Council and was elected Mayor of Florence during the 1990’s.

Neil always enjoyed flight, owning and piloting an airplane for most of his adult life. His contributions in developing and promoting the Fremont County Airport are appreciated by each of his pilot friends, who continue to use and enjoy that facility.

Being an outdoorsman, Neil liked to fish and loved to scuba dive.  In total, he had over 400 dives in his logbook.  He loved to follow his daughter Leah’s travels and adventures online.  He also enjoyed wood and metal crafting in his work shop.  Playing golf with friends has been a constant thread in Neil’s life. It provided him outdoor activity and a connection to lifelong friends.  He was a devoted son, father, and husband, dedicated to the care of his mother through her retirement years.

Neil was a man of faith. He had an abiding belief in Jesus as his Savior and in his later years, found great comfort in His teachings and admonitions. 

Neil is survived by his wife, Cicily; his daughter, Leah and many friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy.
