Patsy Ann Wilson was surrounded by loved ones when she died peacefully in Canon City on Sunday, September 3, 2023. She was 95. Patsy was born on April 10, 1928, in Woodward, OK to Blanche (Covalt) and Charles Burns. She was the oldest of five children. Patsy married Riley A. Hale in 1947 and they welcomed their only child, Riley
Eugene “Gene” Hale later that year. Patsy was a homemaker who always found ways to save money and prided herself on making five-star meals on a shoestring budget. Patsy showed her love through acts of service. She loved to cook and to take care of others. Patsy was tenderhearted and loved animals, acquiring many strays along the way. She was known to feed neighborhood kitties and squirrels as well as a donkey she met on her walks around the Abbey perimeter. Patsy also favored herself as a writer and lyricist, often writing poems and songs that she would recite and sing for her family. Patsy was deeply religious, devoted to her daily worship and was considered a ‘prayer warrior’ by her friends and family. She prayed for at least 75 people a day, breaking up her prayer sessions into three parts throughout the day to ensure she had adequate time to properly speak to the
Lord about each person. Patsy had read her Bible cover to cover many times over the years and was on her twenty- first reading of it this year. She often said she learned something new each time she read the Bible. Patsy was truly a selfless person, often giving to others while living on a modest allowance, donating to many charities, and sponsoring children around the world through compassion international. Patsy was a perennial storyteller, often recounting events in her life with great detail and emotion. Through her stories, she was able to relate experiences from her past as well as connect with friends and family over shared circumstances. In addition to her devotion to the Lord and her family, Patsy thoroughly enjoyed daily exercise, reading, and learning more about health and nutrition. Although Patsy mostly watched religious-based programming, she also equally loved true crime television and would often talk about unsolved cases with her granddaughter. Patsy is survived by her grandchildren Shane (Darci) Hale and Jennifer (James) Coulson as well as great- grandchildren Jonah & Olivia Coulson and Sawyer & Nolan Hale. Her brother, Paul McMasters is her only surviving sibling. Patsy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Riley, son Gene, brothers Lee and Joe Burns and sister Mona Faye Patrick. She is also preceded in death by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Services will be heldat Healing Waters Church, 614 S. 4 th St. on September 23 rdat 11:00 am.
