Richard Ronald Poyner

Richard R. Poyner, 81, passed away at St Thomas Moore Hospital in Canon City, Colorado on April 26th, 2021. He was born in Grand Junction, Colorado on December 9, 1939.     

He grew up in the Leadville, Colorado and Twin Lakes Colorado. He graduated from Leadville High School in 1957. Dick served in the Air Force from 1958 to 1960 as a mechanic. During this time he went on a blind date with Donna Kay Billingsley and they were wed in May, 1961.

Dick worked for over thirty years for the State of Colorado Department of Transportation. He started in Golden, Colorado (1964) as a maintenance worker, and was promoted to Senior Forman in Colorado Springs, Colorado (1975) where he  promoted again to Deputy Highway Maintenance Superintendent in Pueblo, Colorado (1982), and finally ended his career in Alamosa, Colorado (1991) as a Highway Maintenance Superintendent III.  

He and Kay retired to Canon City, Colorado in 1995.  Dick was a longtime board member for the DeWeese-Dye and Reservoir Ditch Company, and they will sorely miss his expertise.   He was a helpful neighbor, avid gardener, and could fix almost anything. 

He is survived by his daughters; Jenny Reitzel and Christian Anders (Joey Fowler), and grandchildren; Jason and Rebecca Reitzel. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna Kay Poyner. 

Consistent with his wishes, the family will be holding a small private memorial service.
