Virgil Fetting Obituary

Virgil Fetting, 90, of Canon City, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his bed on September 17, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

He was born in Ada, Minnesota on March 21, 1930 to Albert and Olga Fetting. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ardella, Angie, and Pete and by his son, Randon Dean Fetting.  Virgil was the last remaining of the siblings. He was raised on a farm helping his father and his Uncle up to the time he entered the U.S. Army.  Virgil joined the Army on 29 February, 1952 and was released from active duty on 28 February, 1954 obtaining the rank of Corporal.

Upon his discharge from the Army, Virgil made his way to Colorado, working several jobs in New Mexico, Wyoming then settling down in Arvada, Colorado where he worked for Ralph Dunkley Excavation.  Virgil eventually branched out on his own and established his own company, ‘Virg Fetting Excavating’.  Virgil moved his family from Arvada, Colorado to Jefferson, Colorado to Fairplay, Colorado, and then eventually settling down in Conifer Colorado.

Virgil was known by many for his meticulous work whether he was building a road, a dam, digging out a foundation for a home, or digging out for a leach system, always ensuring that the customer was happy and pleased with his work.

Upon his retirement from construction, Virg moved from Conifer, Colorado to Canon City, Colorado (with a temporary stopover in Buena Vista, Colorado) where he resided until his death.

Virgil was very outgoing and personable.  “Never meeting a stranger”, he made friends effortlessly and with charm. He enjoyed get-togethers, whether a family get together or just having folks over for a game of cards.

Virgil is survived by his son, Michael L. (Deborah) Fetting, daughter, Billie Ann (Chris) Brown; grandchildren, Nathaniel Fetting, Amalia Throckmorton, Jamie Black, Jesse Entz, Michael Brown, Brandon Brown, John Foster; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
